Wine Tasting: The Velvet Devil Merlot, Washington State 2016

Good ‘ole Velvet Devil.

This bottle is a popular choice among my friends, yet I had never tried it until recently! I think most people buy it for the cute name and bottle (guilty!). I was excited to buy it myself and try it for the first time with my new wine knowledge. Let’s get straight to it.

I looooved this bottle. I loved it so much that I drank it all in one night! Oops!

My initial reaction upon swirling and sniffing was good. It smelled potent, juicy, fruity, berry-ish. When I took my first sip it was balanced, a little bit sweet a little bit acidic, some fruity flavors and some oaky. This wine is from Washington State in the Columbian Valley. The description online for this bottle is:

“As advertised, this smooth Merlot offers pure velvet, deep and delicious black fruit, cedar, tobacco and cassis. It conveys concentrated richness and yet purity and focus. It’s so good that it appears the devil made me do it.”

I love everything about this description! I feel like it describes the flavors and the vibe this wine gives off as a whole. I bought it for under $20… I think maybe even under $15 depending on where you get it from, so definitely a great price for the quality!

I highly recommend The Velvet Devil to anyone who wants to try exploring red wines, but doesn’t know where to start! Like I mentioned before, it was balanced, delicious, fruity, juicy, oaky and all other good adjectives πŸ™‚

Until next wine time!
